Meeting take-away (official minutes at next mtg):
Chester Mordisini:
OCEA Members please make sure you have designated your beneficiary, ask your location steward for the application. Your beneficiary gets $4000 from Teamsters if you pass.
Click here to contact us, and I will send one your way. If you need to change your beneficiary contact me, and I will put you in contact with the correct person.
Death in the family? Another recommendation from Chester is to order 12 original Death Certificates at the time of death when they are a lot less expensive. You will need those certificates for everything, so make sure you have enough.
Health Insurance revisited:
All members of OCEA currently have the Teamster Kaiser Health Plan, and we cannot chose another provider. We changed from the City plan because prices for premiums were going up, and we were paying more out of pocket. With the Teamsters Plan, we do not have to pay any premium out of our monthly paychecks.
Teamsters has a lot of people, so Kaiser gives them a good deal. The City of Oceanside has a lot less people, the deal is not as good. The City provides Health Care by providing a set amount every paycheck to the insurance company. The City caps what they will pay monthly for each employee to have Health Insurance, these are called Heath Insurance Caps. That amount is decided on during negotiations, at the same time we are negotiating raises.
For a single Employee the City pays $577.37, Employee + 1 $1,069.94, Employee + Family $1,316.48. With the Teamsters Kaiser Plan the City is charged $450/ employee, $870/Employee + 1 and $1221 for employee + family. No out of pocket for the employee.
| Health Insurance Cap | Kaiser Only | Kaiser + Anthem Blue Cross | |
| Employee | 557.37 | 450 | 622 |
| Employee + 1 | 1069.94 | 870 | 1027 |
| Employee + Family | 1316.48 | 1221 | 1585 |
If we want an option to have a second insurance, we have to have a majority of OCEA members who want that option. Most people are happy paying nothing out of pocket, for a family with the current plan they are saving a lot of money per year with the Teamsters Kaiser we have now.
If it is something that is important to the majority, we can ask Council to increase the Health Insurance Caps during negotiations so we don’t have to pay out of pocket with any of the plans
