OCEANSIDE – City Employee Association

Meeting Minutes – January 19, 2016
Meeting Location: Oceanside Civic Center – Community Room
Number in attendance: 8

Meeting called to order: By Mike Heiser at 5:30
Motion by Mario Corral/Jennelise Hafen to approve minutes/agenda. Passed.

Treasurer Report:

  • Savings: $1,097.94     Checking: $12,087.35    Total: $13,185.29
  • $4922.88 was spent on Christmas party expenses.

Employee Relations: Chester Mordisini reported there have been no discipline matters. OCEA members should start thinking about the upcoming political season. There will be elections that will affect Esther Sanchez, Jim Woods, and Jack Feller.  Local Teamsters 911 will match OCEA contributions towards supporting candidates.  We want to help keep a council that looks favorably on our Union interests.

New Business:
Mike Heiser: mentioned conversation with Pat Nunez regarding certificates, reminding employees to keep certificates up to date to avoid being demoted.

Also mentioned the Active shooter training. There have been many concerns brought up by employees. Pat Nunez explained, it’s not possible to have a safety measure for every scenario. The city will react to any credible threat. Overspending on safety will impact future raises.

The amount (mentioned above) spent on the Christmas party includes a $50 thank you gift card given to Keith Perillo for providing the DJ service at Christmas party. The gift card was not included in the expense report.

Going forward, OCEA will now hold meetings on the third Tuesday at 5:15 PM on odd months, instead of monthly.

Old Business: None

Meeting adjourned: 5:44 pm
